Many of the races were cancelled due to Covid-19 at the beginning of the year.
Since the lockdown levels have eased up and many cyclists are making up the lost time on their bicycles and have been cycling the long-distance races.
One of those many races was the Cullinan2Tonteldoos mountain bike race.
A couple of local cyclists from eMalahleni took part in this amazing race a month before they completed the Race to the Sun.
Cullinan2Tonteldoos took place on Friday morning, November 6 at 05:15 starting at the Piacere Restaurant parking area.
The distance that the cyclists had to complete was 260km in 24 hours.
There were seven water points (check-in points) for the cyclists and the elevation which they gained was 3 200m ascent over the total distance.
The cyclists finished in Dunkeld Country and Equestrian Estate in Dullstroom.
The cyclists from eMalahleni that took part in the race were: Jaco van Rooyen, Bianca Louw, Alber Botha and Pelop Panagopoulos.
Jaco finished the race in 15 hours and 18 minutes, Bianca finished in 19 hours and 34 minutes, Alber finished in 19 hours and 34 minutes and Pelop finished his race in 17 hours and 48 minutes.
It was a tough race as the cyclists cycled throughout the heat of the day.
“It was a long hot day on the bicycle, but as the sun set it started getting cooler,” said Jaco.
