Emalahleni Local Municipality has been and is currently still experiencing high rainfall which has a devastating impact on the municipal infrastructure as a whole.

The roads and storm water infrastructure is mainly affected and this result in mobility and accessibility of properties, facilities being difficult.

“However as the municipality is busy with infrastructure upgrades and repairs, the processes are impeded by the heavy continuous rainfall,” said municipal spokesperson Mr Lebo Mofokeng.

The municipality is currently undertaking a storm water upgrade project along Main Street which was unfortunately interrupted by the heavy rainfall on  February 24  warranting that the road be closed for road users and property safety.

The affected portion of the road is on Main Street between Beatty and Smuts Avenue.

Alternative routes are identified to accommodate traffic however there is still high traffic congestion taking place. It is against the above background that motorists, pedestrians and road users are urged to be patient and accommodative of each other to avoid road rage and possible incidents by planning their travelling arrangements.

Alternative routes within the Emalahleni central business area can be used to access and traversing the CBD.

The repair of the emergency works has commenced and is expected to be completed by Monday, March 1 weather permitting.
