Lockdown level 4 again…

We can not help but ask the question: “When will it end?”

No, you are not dreaming, we are back to lockdown level four.

We can not help but ask the question: “When will it end?”

Since going into lockdown in March last year we have been trying to fight the coronavirus.

We managed to lower the spread of the virus with a hard lockdown after the first wave.

We were then allowed to work and see our friends and family until a second wave of the virus hit in January. We managed the second wave quickly by closing all social gatherings and liquor stores.

South Africa was upset, but we managed and we thought that was the last time ‘Oom Cyril’ will take something away from us. But no, someone had to steal his iPad. He is so upset that he grounded us. Please can someone just return his iPad? I bet it was a pineapple farmer.

All jokes aside, the third wave is a wake-up call to all South Africans.

This virus with the new variant is not something to take up lightly. The names of people falling ill and dying are becoming closer and closer to every South African’s heart, from relatives to close friends.

We need to do whatever we can to keep the person next to us safe because the virus might not affect you as much, but might infect another.

Wash your hands regularly, sanitise, wear your mask over your mouth and nose, and please try to avoid contact. It is hard to imagine that saving a life could start with a simple hand wash.

We need to realise as well that this virus will not go away overnight, within 14 days, or anytime soon.

Our economy will take another punch on the chin due to this strict level four lockdown but deep down I know our pineapple industry will be a silent hero.

Stay safe and follow the lockdown regulations until our next family meeting with ‘Oom Cyril’.
