Students’ peaceful protest in Ackerville resulted in violence

Students of Mpumalanga Regional Training Trust (MRTT) are pleading for their monthly stipend.

Students of Mpumalanga Regional Training Trust (MRTT) were peacefully protesting outside the MRTT institute in Ackerville.

They were demanding their monthly stipends payments. Some of these students stated that they didn’t register for this term because they don’t have money to proceed with the registrations.

The protest, however, escalated into a violent situation when the security of the institution allegedly started to attack the students.

One of the students was allegedly beaten and sprayed with pepper spray. He was rushed to hospital.

The students then called Bullet Mkabayi the founder of Mkabayi Foundation to represent them in dealing with this matter.

“This is a violation of human rights; therefore, my advice to you guys is that you have to go to the police station to open a case of assault. I, together with representatives of the EFF are going to meet with the management to find a solution on how to deal with this issue,” Mkabayi told students.

The students are hoping to get positive feedback from the institution.

WITBANK NEWS send a questionnaire to the management of MRTT and is awaiting comment from the institution.
