Local karatekas took part in virtual world championships
Karatekas did exceptionally well in the virtual Shotokan World Karate Federation World Championships.
Karatekas from all over South Africa took part in the second virtual Shotokan World Karate Federation (S.W.K.F) World Championships.
The competition took place on Friday, September 24 and Saturday, September 25 and was hosted by Bangladesh.
South Africa came second out of 24 countries that competed under S.W.K.F chief instructor Shihan Leon van Vollenstee.
Witbank Karate Academy under Shihan Leon had 15 students taking part and they won 15 medals.
Sonkei Karate Dojo under Senseis Johnny and Diane Nel had 56 participants and won 42 medals.
Shihan Leon and Senseis Johnny and Diane are very proud of each student that took part and is looking forward to maybe hosting the third virtual world competition in South Africa next year.
“Because of lockdowns worldwide, I don’t think we could ever have had this opportunity to achieve these high results. We thank each student and parent for making it possible,” said Sensei Diane.
