Man robbed after he draws money at a bank

Captain Eddie Hall warns the community to not withdraw large amounts of cash

Having three extra eyes when going to the bank have become a necessity. More and more people come with bad news instead of money after their visitation to financial institutions.

A man walked home with R30 000 less in his account after he was faced by three armed men outside a local bank.

On Saturday, March 12 the complainant went into the bank to withdraw money. He was given R30 000 by the bank teller.

The victim had intended to withdraw R50 000. The teller advised him to withdraw the remaining R20 000 at the ATM after increasing his daily limit.

The victim successfully increased his limit and proceeded to withdraw at the ATM outside the bank. As he was about to leave, three unknown men came up to him demanding the bag with the money.

One of the men, who was holding a pistol forcefully took the bag and ran to their getaway car.

The complainant immediately took out his own pistol and shot multiple shots at the Audi, which was used as a getaway car.

The suspects got away with the bag of money and the victim’s car keys. A case of armed robbery was opened at Witbank Police Station.

The suspects are still on the loose.

Captain Eddie Hall, spokesperson of Witbank Police Station advised the public to refrain from withdrawing a large amount of cash.

“People should make use of internet banking or electronic funds transfer (EFT), which is easier and safer to use,” said Hall.
