Operation Vhuthu Hawe, SAPS initiated to keep Phola crime-free
The operation was a huge success and more operations will take place to keep the community of Phola crime-free
Operation Vhuthu Hawe at Phola SAPS in conjunction with the District and Tactical Response Team (TRT) unit discovered unlicensed firearms and made arrests.
The search was done in the streets of Phola from Thursday, March 17 to Sunday, March 20.
On Thursday, March 17, the operation started in the afternoon until the following morning. Four arrests were made on the day.
Three of the arrests were for illegal immigrant charges and the fourth one was for possession of stolen goods.
The operation continued on the evening of the second day when five arrests were made.
A 42-year-old man was arrested for being in the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Another two were arrested for selling liquor without licenses; one of the accused was charged for illegal immigration.
Two more were arrested for drinking liquor in public.
A firearm was found on a 25-year-old on March 19.
The last day, March 20, brought the biggest surprise as five arrests were made and four cases of recovery of goods were made.
A man was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm, while a 19-year-old was arrested for selling liquor without a license.
The 19-year-old also had a case of illegal immigration opened against him.
A 29-year-old and a 38-year-old were arrested for common assault which was related to domestic violence.
Two Mpumalanga Liquor Licensing Act cases were opened for drinking in public and a truck was recovered after a truck jacking recovery as per Vosman Cas was reported.
The operation was a huge success and more operations will take place to keep the community of Phola crime-free.
All the suspects that were arrested were expected to appear at Ogies Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, March 22.
