Mpumalanga’s boxing scene resurrected, world-class action expected

On Thursday, March 31, the J4joy Boxing Tournament held a press conference at the Ridge Casino in the Highveld Mall. At the conference MEC of Sports, Arts and Culture Thandi Shongwe, Provincial Boxing Manager Oupa Lubisi, former professional boxer Thulani Nkwanyana and Amaswati Chief, Prince T. S. Dlamini, J4joy CEO Squire Nododile and Chairman Jacob Mnisi were among those who attended.

The purpose of the press conference was for the title fighters, BSA officials, WBF president Howard Goldberg and J4joy chairman to unpack the riveting world-class action.

This will take place on Friday, April 8 at the professional boxing tournament in Steve Tshwete Banquet Hall in Middelburg and introduce the first-ever Mpumalanga belt named after the Amaswati chief, Prince T. S. Dlamini.

They will host a total of seven bouts (14 boxers).

Tshifiwa Munyai, the current South African National Lightweight Champion will defend his title for the third and final time against the former IBO all Africa Junior Lightweight and WBO Junior Lightweight champion Aphiwe Mboyiya.

WBF Intercontinental champion Thato Bonokoane will be defending his title against the former WBA Feather Weight Champion Innocent Mantengu.

Thato stated that he is completely committed, very motivated and confident in his ability to retain his title.

He also said that regardless of what his opponent does, he knows that he will come back blazing, that they have fought twice, and he will seal everything by keeping his belt.

The third title fight will be for the unclaimed Mpumalanga Junior Bantamweight Provincial title, in which Sam Sithole will compete against Xolani Mgidi.

One of the most significant highlights of the conference was the authoritative introduction title belt for the Mpumalnga province.

The boxing spectacular will be broadcast live on SABC Sports Channel 124 on Open View at 20:00 and will continue on SABC 2 at 22:00 on Friday, April 8.
