#Get Screened, End stigma, Save lives – World TB Day commemorated at KG Mall
The local municipality of Emalahleni celebrates World TB Day.
The theme of World Tuberculosis Day in Emalahleni was “Invest in Action to end TB”, #Get Screened, End stigma, Save lives.
The office of the Emalahleni Local Municipality and other departments celebrated World Tuberculosis Day with members of the KwaGuqa community on Monday, March 28 at KG Mall.
People gathered at KG Mall to gain knowledge about various illnesses affecting the community.
The day began at Witbank TB Specialised Hospital, where the Executive Mayor of Emalahleni Local Municipality Cllr Conny Nkalitshani, paid a visit to the inpatients and presented them with gifts.
Nurse Amanda Mayekiso from Klarinet Clinic, who was previously admitted to Witbank TB Specialised Hospital, encouraged the inpatients to listen to the nurses and follow their treatment plans.
She advised anyone who is suffering from TB to focus on themselves and tell themselves that if other people can beat TB, so can they.
The program then moved to KG Mall, where the various tents from the health department were set up, and people were encouraged to get tested for HIV, TB, and other diseases.
According to the mayor, they have discovered that the majority of people in eMalahleni have TB diseases; however, it is not always clear whether people have flu, TB, Covid-19, or bronchitis.
She said that they have brought health resources to the people so that where they cannot reach them, they can get resources close by.
Thoko Tsela, the provincial TB manager, stated that TB in Emalahleni, the local municipality with the highest-burden in the district, contributes between 700 and 900 patients annually, and 681 and 374 in 2020 and 2021 respectively.
