Aim for the target in archery

Archery team representing the province well in the virtual tournament

Hitting the centre of the target board is nothing hard for the Mpumalanga archery team.

The team participated in the AGA SA international virtual tournament.

The provincial team came together at Cambridge Academy on Saturday afternoon, April 23.

The virtual tournament included the Smoky Lake team from Canada, Windhoek team from Namibia, as well as teams from the Western Cape, Centurion, Germiston, Kimberly, Meyerton and eMalahleni.

It was reported that the 363 archers that had represented three countries, four clubs and eleven schools in the 2022 International Inter Schools Virtual Competition.

Participants competed amongst the primary, junior high and adult archery divisions.

Owen Trachsel, who participated in the junior high division, got a total score of 294 out of 300 and was number amongst the high school boys.

Owen was also number one under the Top 10 school archers. Ryk Gagiano came second under the AAG Men’s division with a score of 286.

Ryk was number two in the Top 10 AAG Archers and Rindert Wyma, also from Mpumalanga, was number seven in the Top 10 list with a score of 281.

“We had a virtual tournament which was exciting for the players as they were competing with other archers from other parts of the country and outside the boarders,” said Ryk Gagiano.
