The seventh ‘Dry Sessions’ showcases talent in the city

Notepad Poetry gave poets their right to freedom of expression.

The slogan was, “Dry is the words until they’re dipped in poetry.”

On Saturday, April 30, Notepad Poetry, a creative writing and performance media house, invited people to come see and hear the talent in eMalahleni.

Natasha Khosa was one of those who performed and spoke about her experiences with different backgrounds and understandings of different situations.

“What I like about poetry is that it allows you to be yourself without having to answer to everyone. What I’ve shared with everyone is my minor piece on life, and I’ll write another one based on how I felt on a particular day or what I’m dealing with. I really appreciate how Notepad Poetry allows people to explore and express themselves,” she said.

Freedom of speech and expression were celebrated, and one of the performers, Sfiso Mashiya aka ‘Kiddo’, the poet, said, “Thank you so much to Notepad Poetry for giving an opportunity to an artist from here in Mpumalanga; it has introduced me to an artist from far away.”

“One of the things that we enjoy most about Notepad Poetry is the content that has been given to us. Because we preach or speak about most things that people don’t want to hear, we are more likely to voice our opinions. We are able to explore and simply give our own talent because we meet people who are authors or creative artists from various categories,” he added.

On behalf of Notepad Poetry, Africa Zwelibanzi said: “We explored freedom of speech and expression as #DrySessions, and none of it would be possible without you.”
