Klarinet winning the soccer challenge

Soccer tournament in memory of the late minister Jackson Mthembu proved that soccer is still alive.

With all the action during the Pastor Ray Mabena organised tournament in memory of the late minister Jackson Mthembu, Klarinet Dot Mall soccer team won the soccer challenge.

The soccer, netball and boxing challenges were held at the Lynnville Stadium on Wednesday, April 27 celebrating Freedom Day.

Both teams were evenly matched at the start of the match and Black Bees had a corner-kick in the few minutes after the start of the match, and it was saved.

On the other side of the field, Klarinet Dortmund had a place-kick which went outside.

Klarinet Dortmund attacked from the back making use of long passes and in one of their attacks a shot was saved for a corner-kick.

Black Bees soon gained their composure and started playing as a team.

With several attempts at goal, it was never to be as Klarinet had a strong defence.

Black Bees caught Klarinet on the break, but the goalkeeper saved well.

Klarinet Dortmund register their first goal after a cross from the right wing, and it was banged into the net via a header to make it 1-0.

With the lead, Klarinet make their intentions clear and put Black Bees under pressure.

Black Bees showed that they had all the experience of playing in soccer tournament finals, and they soon regrouped and attacked during the last minutes of the first half.

The teams brake for half-time, with Klarinet Dortmund leading by the single goal.

In the second half, with the sun setting, fatigue was showing in both teams as it was a one-day tournament and the teams had played two games to reach the finals.

Black Bees with a counter-attack nearly scored, but the shot was saved by Klarinet keeper.

Black Bees made several attempts at goal, and they were later rewarded towards the end of the match when they equalised after a good build up.

The goal was scored after the Klarinet Dortmund keeper could hold the ball, resulting in a Black Bees forward making sure to take the opportunity presented to him.

With the teams on equal terms, a penalty shoot-out ordered to find a winner.

Klarinet Dortmund scored all the six penalties given, while Black Bees’ one penalty was saved by Klarinet Dortmund keeper, to make the final score 7-6 and Klarinet Dortmund taking the trophy home.

Individual players were awarded trophies for their efforts; Samkelo Mlimi was the player of the tournament, while Junior Maseko won the player of the match trophy.

Klarinet Dortmund also received a new set of soccer jerseys.
