Local students now know their way around the City of Coal

First-year students take to the streets in eMalahleni.

The Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) eMalahleni first-year students flocked to partake in the Amazing Race/Know your city, which was about seven kilometres around eMalahleni key points on Saturday, May 7.

This is an annual event for the registered first-year students; one of the goals of the race is for students to become acquainted with the city in which they study.

Students who want to participate in the race must enrol in the Top Junior Leadership Development Program offered by the Directorate of Student Affairs and Leadership Development at the university.

According to Mr Ashley Henry Gomba, student development practitioner assistant it challenges them physically and mentally.

It also helps them to manage group dynamics, as they are always expected to arrive as a group in order to receive clues for another location.

“It was an opportunity for our students to get to know the city, and the response in terms of participation and feedback was great; it showed that students really enjoyed themselves,” he concluded.
