Phola’s Super Eagles kick it out of the park after generous donation from AICCT
Sports kit and gear to support young Phola stars.
Keeping young girls’ dreams alive and empowering them is one of the things Anglo Inyosi Coal Community Trust (AICCT) aims to do.
The trust decided to reach out and donate to Phola’s lady’s soccer team.
The Phola Youth Achievers Forum (PYAF) requested sponsorship for kits and training equipment from the trust to support their netball and soccer teams.
PYAF aims to use sports as a tool to keep youth away from crime and drugs.
The donation handover from the trust took place at the Masakhane Sports Ground in Phola on Saturday, May 7.
The teenage girls were happy to not only receive sports kits but also matching attires for when they play their games.
Over the last two years, the impact of the forum has grown as they are receiving more people into their program.
The teams participate in leagues, which open them up to the possibilities of being spotted by talent scouts for greater opportunities at provincial and national levels.
Lindi Mahlangu, who is the AICCT community trustee, said that they realized that there is a huge gap in the community, regarding sports, and they decided to step in.
“We wanted to move the girls’ mindsets from drugs, alcohol, teenage pregnancies and crime. We believe that we will see the girls on our TV screens, representing our community and possibly our country,” added Lindi.
Sizwe Lefutso, Chairperson of the PYAF and Super Eagles ladies soccer team, said that he is very happy that such donations are invested in the community.
“Such handovers encourage our girls and boys to live a healthy lifestyle and always do well. We are truly grateful to have the kit for the girls,” concluded Sizwe.
The trust representatives also added that they pledge their commitment to assist the communities that they serve and continue to be a beacon for growth.
They also encouraged community members and NPOs to submit proposals for community upliftment projects and contact their service provider’s project management and trust administration.
After the hand-over, the team played against Fire Stone Ladies FC.
