Blancheville bridge project still on track

Contractors have been appointed and the Blancheville bridge project is up and running

The first soil has officially been turned for the long-awaited rehabilitation of the bridge on Second Avenue in Blancheville which collapsed in 2016.

On Monday, May 30, the sound of machines could be heard by the overjoyed residents of the Blancheville area where the appointed contractors from Marbujan Trading Enterprise have officially started with the project.

Councillor Maureen Scheepers of Ward 20 and the officials from the Emalahleni Local Municipality that are involved in the project, held a meeting in April where they announced that the project was launched again and that work would commence by the end of May 2022.

True to the timeline, on May 30 work proceeded as planned.

“I am happy to report that site establishment was completed with no issues, and we were able to keep to the guided timeline to start work by the end of May,” said Scheepers.

This bridge is one of the longest roll-over projects for this area that has yet to be completed.

At the community meeting, it was stated that once the work commences, the project should take approximately seven months to be completed.

“The community needs this bridge, as it has affected the entire area since it collapsed six years ago. This is all part of making Ward 20 great again,” Scheepers concluded.

For more information regarding the project, residents can contact the councillor of Ward 20, Maureen Scheepers on 082 565 6770.
