School children take charge at Phola Police Station

SAPS members expose learners to different careers within law enforcement.

Children reach a stage where they have to decide on the career path that they would like to go into.

Some don’t usually have enough information and end up having to choose a path that they don’t really like.

Phola SAPS has put a stop to this by inviting learners from different schools in the vicinity to spend Tuesday, May 31 at the police station.

The officials held a ‘Take a girl/boy child to work’ programme to enlighten them about the police service.

The communications officer at Phola Police Station, Sergeant Petros Ntuli, and Captain Khosi Maphanga who is the Support Head and Women Network Chairperson led the programme on the day.

The learners from Mabande Comprehensive Secondary School, Mehlwana Secondary School and Makause Combined School were identified by their schools to join the programme. The children were taught how the police station operates and how the police function in their respective offices and fields.

“We exposed the children to our everyday duties and how they should conduct themselves, should they wish to serve in the force. The day was a success and we wish to hold more of these programmes, to help children choose career paths that will enable them to succeed,” said Ntuli.

The ‘Take a girl/boy child to work’ programme is celebrated on the last Thursday of May in many countries around the world. The main aim is to enlighten children about a specific career.
