Patients and healthcare workers left stranded in clinic

Robbery at local clinic left residents in shock.

A visit to the clinic turned into a nightmare as patients and staff members were robbed.

The horrific incident took place at the local clinic in Phola on Thursday, June 23. It was alleged that two men walked into the clinic at around 20:00. One of the nurses on duty requested the men to wear their masks as it was still mandatory at the time.

The men then allegedly took out a firearm and demanded cellphones from the nurse.

Both patients and staff members were robbed of their cellphones, and then they fled the scene. The police were called soon after.

“This case has devastated many patients and nurses. The officers responsible for the case are trying their best to find the culprits. These types of crimes are unacceptable and the perpetrators should be brought to book. The clinic will need tight security so that the community members feel safe again, and the police will gladly assist,” said Captain Jannie Kamfer, the acting station commander at Phola Police Station.

No arrests have been made thus far, yet police are still investigating the matter.
