Old Middelburg Road scrap yard owner gets R5 000 bail
Because of the vandalism and theft of Eskom and municipal equipment, service delivery is regularly hampered. But when the Hawks circled around the municipality recently, scrap yard owners landed in hot water for allegedly buying this very vital equipment.
The owner of a scrap yard on the R555 and four others working at scrap yards in Kendal and Ogies were arrested earlier this week for contravention of the Second Hand Goods Act.
The five suspects are suspected of buying stolen property belonging to Eskom amongst others.
This arrest comes after Eskom reached out to the community to report theft and had to implement load shedding as theft was one of the challenges they faced this past few weeks.

Theft of Eskom- and municipal property also led to Clewer residents having to cope without electricity for weeks on end.
The suspects appeared in court on Tuesday, July 5, and Wednesday, July 6 respectively.
