Whereabouts of the wild cat spotted in Hlalanikahle are unknown

What happened to the wild cat in Ext 3?

A Serval cat with two cubs was spotted in Hlalanikahle, when a resident reported to the police that he saw something that might have been a leopard or cheetah.

A wild cat escaped on Wednesday, July 20 in Hlalanikahle Extension 3 while Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) officers was attempting to apprehend it.

What happened next is unclear, as it was reported that there were about three of them, but only one was spotted.

”This is a wild cat; it is no danger to humans, they should simply ignore it,” said Mr Nicholas Mahlangu from SPCA.

Mr Mahlangu is concerned about how members of the public handled the situation, particularly after being given instructions. It is alleged that after the SPCA have left, a group of boys went hunting the wild cat with dogs and attacked it, and it is believed that one wild cat was attacked because there was a picture circulating on social media of a person carrying the wild cat.
