A 43-year-old man drowns in Olifants River
A baptising ritual ended tragically for one of the church members.

The Olifants River near the old Middelburg Road claimed the life of a man.
On November 5, police were notified of an incident in which a church member drowned in the water near the bridge going over the river.
According to police, they responded to an inquest complaint and discovered a man who explained that there were baptising members of the church and the victim was the first member to get into the water.
They followed the cleansing process when the man drowned. They tried but failed to save him.
The man was declared dead at the scene after the SAPS diving unit recovered his body from the Olifants River.
