Areas being supplied with electricity from the Buffer substation are currently experiencing irregular power supply interruptions due to the failure of a 40MVA transformer.

These areas include: 

Industrial areas of Ferrobank, KwaGuqa (old areas), Kwa Thomas, Mahlanguville, Thushanang, Lynnville, Klarinet Extensions, Siyanqoba, Sinqobile Extension 15,16 and 17, Emsagweni and KwaGuqa Mall. 

The substation is currently operating with only one 40MVA transformer instead of the normal two 40 MVA transformers, resulting in the availability of only 50 per cent of the capacity.

Load-shedding has also created an additional burden on the stability of supply.

Overloading mainly occurs after load-shedding and during inclement weather conditions where temperatures drop, resulting in communities increasing the utilisation of power.

The staggering load needs to be done and areas are brought back systematically as available capacity becomes available.

Residents will experience prolonged delays, especially after load shedding and trip-outs, stabilising the grid and ensuring all residents are supplied with electricity.

Residents are requested to reduce electricity supply usage, especially during inclement weather conditions. 

The municipality is currently busy with the sourcing of a replacement 40 MVA transformer unit and the expectation that the repairs of the faulty units which are currently with the repairer are being fast-tracked and good progress is being made.
