South African National Civic Organization (Sanco) members came out in force to support the march to raise demands under the theme ‘everything for Abahlali and nothing against Abahlali’.

This follows Sanco’s announcement of a peaceful march from King George Park beginning early Friday morning, December 2.

 “Today’s meet and greet does not end here; we will return until our demands are met,” Sanco said.

Sanco is dissatisfied with the impact Eskom has had on South African citizens as they marched to address the issue.

Among other things they are demanding is the phase-out of load shedding and extensive community consultations on energy transition crises, as well as Mr Andre’s ‘Load shedding’ De Ruyter’s dismissal.

Sanco marched to express their displeasure with the oppressive situation in their area, and they presented a list of demands to relevant stakeholders.

Sanco in Mpumalanga is highly unhappy with Eskom’s performance over the last three years, with load shedding increasing dramatically.

Sanco believes that power station closures would affect workers in Mpumalanga province, not only workers but also the community as a whole.

That load-shedding costs jobs and aggravates small businesses, and Eskom contributes to the country’s growing poverty.

“Sanco supports multi-power solutions, but not at the expense of ‘abahalli’ (community) jobs. We are from COVID-19, which has taken many jobs, and it appears that the unemployment is sponsored by Eskom,” Sanco added.

The gathering was peaceful, and they marched to Eskom Park to deliver a memorandum of demands received by Eskom’s delegate office and office enterprises.

“Everything went well; the march was a huge success. We have given them ten working days starting Friday to respond to our demands,” said Mr Hamzer Ngwenya of Sanco.
