Siyanqoba murder – man still in custody after he abandons bail application

The case has been postponed until March 3 for further investigation, and Mr Andile Payi remains in custody.

After appearing in court, a man accused of murdering and burying a woman in Siyanqoba abandoned his bail application.

On Wednesday, January 4, Mr Andile Payi appeared in Witbank Magistrate Court, where it was brought to light that he is allegedly on parole for a rape conviction for which he was sentenced to nine years in prison, as well as another pending murder case.

Payi’s appearance in court follows Ms Netty Mokoena’s disappearance on December 10.

Payi allegedly confessed to killing Mokwena and burying her in a shallow grave somewhere in the Siyanqoba fields.

The body was discovered decomposing five days later, and the police are awaiting the results of DNA tests before allowing the family to take and bury the deceased.
