Rotary Club of Witbank lights up city once again
You will be de-‘light’-ed to find out that the Rotary Club of Witbank is back in action to dazzle the city’s street lights for Christmas.
Have you ever wondered where the Christmas lights on eMalahleni’s street lights come from over the festive season?
You will be de-‘light’-ed to find out that it is thanks to the Rotary Club of Witbank.
Rotary Club of Witbank is a non-profit, service-orientated organisation working with charitable organisations such as Eden Park Home for the Elderly, Mthimkulu Home for the Elderly, and food distribution for Jabez and Children Welfare.
Following a break in its ‘Christmas Light Project’ due to the Covid-19 lockdown, the club is pleased to relaunch its project of hope and joy that depicts the true spirit of Christmas.
The lights are erected along Mandela Street from December to mid-January.
All proceeds of the project go to assisting the elderly and underprivileged members of the eMalahleni community.
With eMalahleni City Council’s approval and cooperation, several light decorations were erected on the street light poles in eMalahleni this past December.
What many may not know is that their companies can assist Rotary and the community with this project.
An interested sponsor can sponsor a decoration, and their advertising board will be erected below it on the street light pole.
If they have taken part in the project, Rotary might have their board available.
Should a new sponsor be interested, then a double-sided chromadek board (450mm x 900mm) needs to be supplied at their own cost and will be pop-riveted by the project team to the frame supplied by Rotary.
The club would like to thank the companies that took part in sponsoring the Christmas lights 2022 project and encourage others to do so in 2023.
The club plans to invite companies to start pledging to the cause as early as August.
