Outstanding performance by Mpumalanga athletes at nationals

The athletes who performed well were awarded medals during the various national championships.

Mpumalanga Athletics president Paul Bester was over the moon and congratulated all the athletes who performed well and were awarded medals during the various national championships.

 

These championships took place between March 19 and April 1 at different locations.

Well done to the following athletes:

 Association for Physically Disabled (SASAPD) Toyota National Championships held on March 19 at Cape Town:

 

Juane le Roux (class F46 ‒ women U20): discus throw (31.70) – gold, shot put (98.5) – gold, javelin (25.62) – gold and Collin-Lee Harty (class T47 ‒ men U20): 100 m (00:11:69) – gold, 200 m (00:23:41) gold, 400 m (00:53:16) – gold.

Athletics South Africa (ASA) U16, U18 and U20 track and field on March 23 to 25 at Pietermaritzburg: 

Zoe Cilliers – girls U16 100 m (12:42) silver

Luan Greyling – boys U16 800 m (1:57:00) – silver

Musawenkosi Mnisi – men U20 5 000 m (15:03:93) – bronze

WJ Fraser – men U18 400 m hurdles (0:51:60) – silver

Ntiyiso Nkanyani – men U20 400 m hurdles (0:51:13) silver

Shanese de Clerck women U20 high jump (1.70) gold

Caitlin Dehrman – women U20 high jump (1.70) bronze

Menzi Shiba – boys U16 long jump (6.28) silver

Tshepiso Mokwena girls U16 triple jump (11:06) – bronze

Tye Habib – boy’s U16 triple jump (12:67) silver

Chris-Mari Bezuidenhout – girls U16 shot put (14:46) – bronze

Ashley Erasmus – women U20 shot put (16.35) gold

Ashley Erasmus – women U20 discuss (53.35) ‒ gold

Logan Nienaber – women U18 discus (48.27) silver.

 

Katleho Mofokeng, Jacques Bosch, Mahlori Ntimbane, and Matimba Ndwawe – boys U16 4 x 100 relay – gold

The officials who officiated at the event were: Hloniphile Nkosi, Estelle Opperman, Louis Bates, Abednego Sibanyoni and Dephney Masiye.

 

ASA senior track and field, walk and combine events were held at McArthur Stadium in Potchefstroom on March 30 to April 1. 

 

The athletes that participated were: Ashley Erasmus – senior women shot put (16.85) gold. During the event, both Shane de Clerck and Ashley Erasmus were taken up in the Athletics South Africa U20 squad for the African Games that will take place in Zambia. 

 

Technical officials, who officiated at the championships, were: Hloniphile Nkosi, Estelle Opperman, Louis Bates, Johanita Bester and Dephney Masiye.

 

“Thank you for representing Athletics Mpumalanga at this prestigious event. We are tremendously proud of our track and field athletes and the technical officials with this great season’s end off,” said Bester.
