Jacob is a man with a plan to reduce load-shedding and load reduction
Mr Jacob Jappie Mashiyane says he can save the municipality millions.
Mr Jacob Mashiyane of Zokeo Technologies believes that he has a solution for load-shedding and load reduction which has crippled the country.
Jacob was invited to do a presentation at the Nkangala District offices in Middelburg on Thursday, June 1.
His company specialises in identifying electrical problems and proposing possible solutions, striving towards ensuring electrical safety and compliance by consumers.
He pointed out that the point of control is the point at which a consumer can, on or in any premises, switch off the electrical installation from the electricity supplied from the point of supply,” (SANS 10142).
“Due to the lack of electrical power point of control in domestic dwellings, the following problems are identified or experienced – no discrimination of supplier’s service connection current and consumer’s service connection current. When the electrical network is off it is vulnerable to tempering and it is a potential contributor to load-shedding.”
Jacob said the point of control shall assist the supplier in limiting the consumer’s access to the reticulation networks and the point of supply, it also serves as a discriminatory point of current consumption, where the current rating of the circuit breakers used shall ensure the quickest disconnection of power in case of heavy electrical faults and/or over current drawn through it.

The implementation of the power point shall ensure a minimum saving of 10A difference, between the 60A – 5KA circuit breaker at the point of supply and the 50A – 2.5KA circuit breaker at the point of control within the consumer’s premises.
“The regulation of the current supplied to installations shall contribute much to the relief to current drawn from transformers, and thus prolong the lifespan of the network transformers,” explained Jacob.
He said in addressing the load-shedding problem, the solution will be by using a minimum saving of 10A difference, between the 60A – 5KA circuit breaker at the point of supply and the 50A – 2.5KA circuit breaker at the point of control within the consumer’s premises. With 10A multiplied by 1 million houses multiply by 220V it equals 2 200 megawatts.

“This is what we are going to save for Eskom and municipalities on 1 million houses through normalisation using the powerpoint. The 50A ‒ 2,5KA breaker shall be an over-current protection device. The total electrical power point installation price for the labour and materials is R1 517,54 per installation (house) VAT inclusive,” added Jacob.
Jacob also presented problem areas and solutions in RDP houses as well as bond houses nationally like the problems in wiring, switches and plugs, lights and presentation on base or ready boards that are highly inflammable and non-repairable and the solution to those non-flammable and repairable boards.
