Middle school rugby finals brought the heat

Hard-hitting school rugby takes on the cold.

It was all about rugby at Witbank High this weekend.

Tumelo Mokoena, Nyiko Mehlembe and Melusi Ntshangase.

Teams got together on July 22 with cold winds pounding everyone in the way but it did not seem to dull the high spirits of players and supporters alike.

Teams gathered at the Witbank High sports field. Schools like Curro Bankenveld, Hoërskool Patriot, Witbank High, Steelcrest High and Evander High School.

One of the action-packed matches was the under-16 Witbank High and Patriot rugby teams. Witbank High has been on the defense in the first half with Patriot on the attack with both teams eventually getting to the scoring lines after much perseverance.

Witbank High did not succeed and lost to Patriot with a score of 10-34. Steelcrest also won Witbank High’s second team with a score of 3-12. Witbank High’s first team did however beat the Steelcrest first rugby team with an impressive 24-12 win.
