Vosman Police operation yields positive results: Multiple suspects apprehended for various violations

Six suspects appeared in court for a variety of offences, including the recovery of guns.

Vosman Police, in line with directives from the SAPS Provincial Head Office, have been actively engaging in operations to combat crime.

These operations have demonstrated promising outcomes, resulting in the arrest of numerous suspects involved in a range of offences.

The latest operation, which transpired between 4 and 5 August, has yielded significant progress in curbing criminal activities.

Five suspects, aged between 21 and 43, have been taken into custody as part of this initiative.

These suspects appeared before Witbank Magistrate’s Court on Monday, August 7.

Their collective charges encompass a wide spectrum of violations, including possession of an unlicensed firearm, driving under the influence of alcohol, possession of dangerous weapons, shoplifting, malicious damage to property, and contravention of a protection order.

Police also successfully retrieved one firearm and several other dangerous weapons during the operation.

In a separate and unrelated incident, police seized a licensed firearm from a 29-year-old male and subsequently arrested him on charges of attempted murder.

The incident unfolded at Hlalanikahle Phase 1 and involved the discharge of a gunshot targeting a victim, who has since registered a formal case. Police have taken possession of the firearm for further investigative purposes.

As a response to the discovery of firearms and other lethal weapons, local authorities are issuing a resounding call to the community, urging individuals to refrain from adopting violent behaviour that leads them to arm themselves with dangerous instruments, often with the intent to inflict harm or commit robbery.

The Acting Station Commander of Vosman, Colonel Gayane Mashego, underscored the paramount importance of community support in furnishing the police with valuable information about criminal activities.

“Police alone, with the few resources at their disposal, alone cannot eradicate crime. The community is therefore urged to assist police in their quest of reducing crime,” said Mashego.
