High speed accident on N4 claims six lives

One vehicle caught alight with the four passengers still inside.

The N4 road has claimed six more lives this week when a tragic accident occurred.

The accident took place on Monday, September 4 at 03:00.

According to reports, the two vehicles were travelling from Pretoria heading to eMalahleni when the Mercedes ran out of petrol close to the Matthew Phosa off-ramp.

The other vehicle, a Golf, whose occupants were known to the occupants of the Mercedes, then went to a nearby petrol station to buy petrol for the stranded vehicle.

It is however when the Golf returned with the petrol when things took a sinister turn.

Reports state that while returning with the petrol, the Golf tried to overtake two vehicles at high speed when the vehicle subsequently drove into the back of the stationary Mercedes with the five passengers still inside.

Two of the five occupants in the Mercedes sadly died on the scene and all four passengers in the Golf perished in the fire caused by an explosion on impact.

The accident claimed the lives of six passengers.

The identities of the deceased are not yet known as their next of kin is in the process of identifying the bodies.
