Man arrested after allegedly being found with suspected stolen property on site
One person has been arrested after his "accomplice" fled the scene just before the confrontation.
Witbank SAPS is investigating a case of possession of suspected stolen property following the arrest of a man at a local mining site in eMalahleni.
According to the police, the incident occurred at around 05:00 on October 14 when a man who was patrolling the area noticed two men pushing a wheelbarrow.
The patroller reportedly stopped the pair to question them about the items they were transporting. Police said one of the men immediately fled the scene, while the other remained behind and was confronted.
It is alleged that the man admitted that the items were being stolen and claimed that he was working for someone residing in the city. The suspect was subsequently arrested and charged with possession of suspected stolen property.
Witbank SAPS spokesperson Warrant Officer David Ratau is yet to confirm whether the suspect has made his first appearance in court, as well as the current status of the case.
Police investigations into the matter are continuing. Ratau further urged anyone with information that could help the police solve the case to visit the station or call 079 891 5570 or 013 655 5052.
