Cancer survivor spreads message of hope
Family, faith, and fortitude: Greama Khoza's triumph over cancer.
She is a cancer survivor and tells anybody who cares to listen that it is possible to beat cancer.
Greama Khoza is a living testimony of hope.
Relating her story Greama says it all started while she was going to collect her blood pressure medication at Poly Clinic in Lynnville in 2021.
Her left nipple had a problem and told one of the sisters, Sister Betty Shiba who examined her and after that booked her for a doctor.
The doctor examined her and booked her for Witbank Hospital where a biopsy was performed and she was told to come back for the results after a few days.
“Coming for my results I was helped by a student doctor who was afraid to tell me the outcome of the results, I insisted and told him that I was well prepared for the worst – he then told me that I had breast cancer. I was very calm and well prepared which surprised the doctor. More blood tests were ordered including x-rays and scans performed. I was given a date to come again for the results. Later I was taken to the oncology ward and told about the process to be followed that I would start with the chemotherapy treatment and that it would take me eight circles for proper treatment. I was told that was to prevent the cancer from spreading in my body. It was very tough and I had side effects but prayers and support from family members and the medical staff carried me through. An operation was also performed on my breast,” explained Greama.
Last year during Cancer Month in October Greama said she was invited to encourage other women who had cancer that it was possible to beat it.
They have also formed a supporting group called Sinqobile Breast Cancer Survivors.
The group members are Naniwe Sibeko, Nqobile Mahlobo, Sifiso Zulu and Apostle Nchabeleng Lentsoalo.
Sifiso is in the group as a supporter of Nqobile and Pastor Lentsolo as a spiritual supporter offering prayers and moral support to members of the group.
Greama appeals to family members to support people who have cancer and not to feel pity for them but to encourage them and give them hope.
She also indicates that they are always available to offer support to any cancer patients or any survivors as the journey to healing can be very tough.
She also encourages women to take good care of their bodies.
