Local Jimny owner is part of a world record

A resident tells of his experience being part of the world record set by Suzuki Jimny.

As September drew to a close a resident of eMalahleni, Mark Beamish, was one of 796 Suzuki Jimny owners who set a world record.

South Africa, earned the achievement of ‘Most cars to switch on their lights simultaneously’ when 796 owners switched on the vehicle’s headlamps.

The rules stated that the owners had to turn on their vehicle’s lights within five seconds for the effort to count.

The Jimny gathering took place in Clarens from September 22 to 24.

In true South African style, this Guinness World Records title attempt took place on National Heritage Day on 24 September, followed by a massive braai.

This one-of-a-kind event brought together Jimny owners and fans from all over the country.

“It was an incredible weekend,” Mark said.

He drives a Generation 3 Jimny.

“I met some classic people. Jimny drivers are a cult with a very close-knit camaraderie.”
