NSSD knock out Multi Birds in tournament

The game was set for a penalty shoot-out.

One of the quarter-final matches of the Kasi to Kasi Soccer Tournament sponsored by Samancor was between NSSD and Multi Birds.

The U17 tournament was played at the Overline Sports Ground and all four teams’ winners were decided on a penalty shoot-out.

The semi-finals of the tournament will be played at the same ground on Saturday, October 21.

Another interesting fact is that all the KwaGuqa-based teams will come against each other in the semi-finals, while teams from KwaGuqa Extensions and Klarinet will be knocked out of the tournament.

Nhlanhla Shabangu Sports Development (NSSD) was the better team on the field, and they were nearly rewarded with a goal when putting Multi Birds under attack. A few minutes after that, Multi Birds scored and only after three minutes NSSD equalized to make it 1-1; it was evident that the fans were set for an entertaining match.

NSSD had built up from the back and spread their play in the wings and Birds were up for the task.

NSSD in one of their attacks nearly scored, but a Birds’ goalkeeper punched the ball out for a corner kick.

With play swinging from one end to the other, both teams created and failed to find the back of the net.

Towards the end of the first half, NSSD missed a chance to register another goal, but the shot went wide.

With the score level at 1-1, the teams break for half-time.

Birds came back stronger in the second half, creating and taking the game to NSSD. It was during that attack that the Birds nearly scored their second goal, but the NSSD goalkeeper saved for a corner kick.

NSSD defended well and attacked in numbers; in one of their attacks, they scored their second goal to make it 2-1.

Birds tried their best, but they were under pressure to equalize and in one of their attacks they nearly scored with a high ball.

NSSD leading 2-1 added another goal to make it 3-1, and they were taking the match to their opponents. NSSD thought they had wrapped the match in their favour, while Birds had other ideas.

Birds came back strong towards the end of the match and forced NSSD to commit mistakes.

They scored their second goal to make it 3-2 and added another one to make it 3-3 in the dying minutes of the game.

The game was set for a penalty shoot-out and ended with NSSD winning the game after a very interesting and entertaining game.
