Ikosi Mahlangu – A leader of the people and the law
Ikosi Mahlangu - pioneering change in Hlalanikahle through leadership and law.
In the heart of Hlalanikahle, a remarkable leader emerges as a beacon of hope and change for his community.
Ikosi Ndabezitha Nsizwa Mahlangu (39), is a traditional leader hailing from the Mrhejha Royal House, who has dedicated his life to the welfare and progress of his people.
Taking the helm of leadership at the tender age of 22, Mahlangu has shown unwavering commitment to his community.
In an exclusive interview with WITBANK NEWS, he opened up about the numerous community projects he has initiated to assist and uplift his people.
He shared, “I run several projects, including one aimed at combating the use of drugs and alcohol in schools. I started this project after discovering that some children were skipping school to engage in risky drinking activities with their friends. Another important programme involves helping male and female prisoners overcome their criminal mentality.”
While being a dedicated leader of his people, Ikosi Mahlangu is also a practising lawyer.
He holds an LLB Law Degree from the University of Pretoria and currently works as a legal assistant specialising in the administration of deceased estates.
When asked about how he manages to balance these two demanding roles, he explained, “Being in the legal fraternity has always been my dream, but specialising in deceased estates chose me. I love it because it complements my calling to serve my people by assisting them with the estates of their loved ones.”
Ikosi Mahlangu is also the director and founder of Phathi Trust.
While he is not admitted as an attorney, he is associated with a law firm.

Not only is he a leader and a lawyer, but Mahlangu is also a television personality.
He hosts a reality show called ‘Ebukhosini’ which is currently airing on Showmax.
The show offers viewers an intimate look into his royal life as a chief, especially when he presides over community disputes in his tribal court.
The cases he deals with encompass a wide range of issues, from witchcraft and family disputes to lobola and damages.
The show’s primary aim is to encourage people to resolve their disputes without resorting to the formal magistrate’s courts.
Ikosi Mahlangu emphasised that participation in the show is entirely voluntary for community members.
He stated, “People choose whether they want their cases to be on television or not, and they all sign consent forms. All cases are real and were shot at the Hlalanikahle Royal House in eMalahleni.”
