Duo arrested for alleged stolen diesel and unlicensed firearms

Two suspects between 25 and 60 years old were arrested for the possession of unlicensed firearms and stolen diesel.

Two suspects between the ages of 25 and 60 were arrested for the possession of an estimated 600 litres of suspected stolen diesel, as well as two unlicensed firearms allegedly found in their possession.

According to the report, Middelburg Flying Squad in partnership with Witbank Tactical Team, and the Mpumalanga Tracking Team received a tip-off from a whistleblower.

It is alleged that the police responded to the tip-off about a 60-year-old male suspect in possession of an unlicensed firearm and stolen diesel.

Ammunition were found.

Twenty containers filled with diesel were recovered by police.

The suspect also failed to produce the licence for the firearm.

The police later seized five containers full of diesel after the 25-year-old male suspect failed to produce proof of purchase.

There was supposedly no license found in the suspect’s possession of the two firearms, which subsequently led to his arrest.

8 special revolver with six ammunition and a 9 mm Norinco pistol with three ammunition were found.

Lieutenant General Semakeleng Daphney Manamela, Mpumalanga Provincial Commissioner said that the police appreciated the tip-off.

“Both suspects are expected to appear before Witbank Magistrate’s Court soon,” ended Manamela.
