Focusing on World AIDS Day and GBV

People were urged to unite and fight against Aids during World Aids Day commemorated at Witbank Correctional Centre.

Witbank Correctional Centre witnessed a powerful gathering commemorating World AIDS Day with a focus on resilience, education, and unity.

Officials, stakeholders, and ambassadors joined forces on Tuesday, December 1 to address HIV awareness and confront gender-based violence (GBV) issues.

HIV ambassador Grace Seopela spoke of her journey with the virus and how it impacted her life.

“Living with the virus has been a challenging yet transformative experience. It’s crucial to break the stigma surrounding HIV and promote understanding.”

GBV ambassadors Seopa Charles and Betty Tsie shared their experiences and raised awareness of GBV as former perpetrators and convicts.

“As former perpetrators and convicts, we stand against GBV. Education and empathy are vital in breaking the cycle,” Charles said.

Smangele Masango, Area Coordinator of Corporate Services, expressed gratitude, “We appreciate everyone who was in attendance and indicated that more similar sessions are needed.”
