Suspect arrested for illegal mining in Ogies

Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela warned community members to refrain from illegal mining activities.

Ogies Police have arrested a 49-year-old man after he was caught allegedly conducting illegal mining activities.

According to the Provincial Commissioner of the Police in Mpumalanga Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela police in Ogies were alerted by the security personnel of illegal mining activities carried out within the mining premises.

“The suspect was spotted by security guards inside the mining premises. It is alleged that the suspect was found operating the excavator on the mining site,” Manamela said.

On Tuesday, March 26 the suspect was arrested by police, he then appeared before the Ogies Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, March 27, where he was remanded in custody for a formal bail application scheduled for Wednesday, April 3.

Manamela, welcomed the arrest. The general further warned community members to refrain from illegal mining activities and if they fail to do so, they will face the full might of the law.
