Police are looking for any leads on a man who allegedly raped a 17-year-old girl in Vosman

The victim's cousin was allegedly nearly raped by the suspect on the same night.

The police are looking for any leads on a man who allegedly raped a 17-year-old girl in Vosman.

This incident happened on Thursday, March 28. The young girl’s cousin (20) was allegedly nearly raped by the suspect on the same night.

Provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, said after the incident, the minor managed to grab a spanner and repeatedly hit the suspect and the two young females managed to break loose from their assailant.

Preliminary investigation by the police indicates that the alleged suspect, who was allegedly driving a grey Hyundai i10, somehow lured the two girls and reportedly bought them some beverages at the neighbour’s house during a party.

“The suspect somehow convinced the two young girls and then took them to a secluded place. Upon arrival, it is further alleged that he came up with some tricks and then allegedly raped the 17-year-old.”

It was when the suspect was allegedly about to rape the 20-year-old that the minor used the spanner and hit the suspect repeatedly.
A rape case and an attempted rape case were opened.

No one has been arrested so far, and police urge anyone with information that may assist in apprehending the suspect to call the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111 or send information via MYSAPSAPP.

All received information will be treated as confidential, and callers may opt to remain anonymous.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, has strongly condemned the incident.
The matter will be investigated by the Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences Unit.
