Meet local singer-songwriter Sfiso

Rising Afro-pop sensation Sfiso Mkhaliphi (30), known by his stage name Mcar-Lee, wishes to captivate audiences nationwide as he makes waves with his eclectic blend of Afro-pop, soul, R&B, and gospel melodies.

Sfiso found his calling early, nurtured by the vibrant rhythms of his local church choir and school ensemble. “I’ve always felt a deep connection to music,” Sfiso explained.

“It’s like it’s coursing through my veins, guiding me to share my voice with the world.”

Relocating to eMalahleni in 2015 was an important turning point for the aspiring artist, as it marked the start of his journey to musical glory. However, it wasn’t until 2018 that he truly devoted himself to his trade, motivated by a renewed desire to pursue his love wholeheartedly.

“I realised that music wasn’t just a hobby for me; it was my purpose. I knew I had to take it seriously if I wanted to make an impact,” Sfiso said.

Inspired by idols and motivated by a strong desire to create, Mcar-Lee began creating his own songs in 2019. His breakout track, ‘Okhethiwe’, which came from a competition evocative of his early influences, drew the attention of industry veterans and fuelled his budding career.

“I poured my heart and soul into ‘Okhethiwe,’ drawing from my own experiences and emotions. The response was overwhelming, giving me the confidence to keep pushing forward,” Sfiso said.

Mcar-Lee’s captivating melodies and soulful songwriting have captivated audiences with each succeeding release, including his most recent smash, ‘Unobubel’ with Lovelinah. The song, which was released on February 17, across all digital platforms, rapidly became a fan favourite, cementing his place as a rising star in the Afro-pop industry.

“Music has the power to unite us all, to evoke emotions we didn’t even know we had. With every song I create, I aim to spread love and positivity, touching hearts across the continent and beyond,” said Sfiso.

Sfiso, who has collaborated with acclaimed musicians such as Assessa, Mdu musicians, and Fanatic from Durban, is ready to create an unforgettable imprint on the field of music. As he prepares to release his new single, which features Mduduzi Ncube, fans can anticipate nothing less than musical perfection from this young phenomenon.
