Psychologists address the GBV issue

Psychologist Vusi Mbuli teaches couples how to communicate effectively to strengthen relationships and combat GBV

Gender based violence (GBV) often starts at home and is a huge social problem that South Africa is trying to navigate.

Psychologist Vusi Mbuli alongside his associates have taken it upon themselves to combat the problem through counselling and educating couples regarding the pitfalls that can happen in marriage and in relationships that can lead to violence, abuse, and divorce.

Couples attending the date night.

They hosted a date night marriage enrichment session on Friday, April 5, for couples which aimed at helping couples re-ignite the spark in their relationships, understand each other and communicate more effectively, assist in finding healthy ways to resolve conflict, and build a more stable, long-lasting, and enriching relationship.

Vusi said, “Improved communication can have many positive implications not only in relationships but in other areas of our lives as well. It can help you navigate difficult conversations, express your opinions, and connect more deeply and meaningfully with others. Adopting healthy communication techniques and dropping the unhealthy techniques is not an easy task; the patterns we have adopted are often long-standing.”

He encouraged couples to take things one step at a time and be patient with themselves and their partner.

“Each step forward is a step in the right direction.”

The event was organised by Mr Mzwandile Magagula, joined by a panel of guests who all gave valuable input and tips on improving any relationship.
