eMalahleni’s young netball and TikTok fanatic
Melo stole the hearts of South Africans when a video of her on the netball course got one million views.

Meet Melokuhle Masango (9), a young TikTok fanatic and netball star.
Melo, as she is fondly known, broke into stardom after a video of her on a netball court went viral on TikTok.
In the video, Melo showcased impressive footwork and speed during a netball game that earned her one million views and 55 000 likes.
Parents and peers commented and cheered for the youngster, saying she would be going far with her talent.
In a bid to get to know the shining star, WITBANK NEWS exclusively interviewed Melo and her mother, Faith Themba.
Faith shared that her daughter was introduced to mini netball in 2023, and instantly fell in love with the sport after being selected as one of the players at the school’s netball trials.
“She was so excited and showed so much enthusiasm, and from there on, she has never looked back. Watching her grow more in love with the sport made me realise that she will go very far, as far as the nationals I believe,” Faith cheered.
She also confessed that as a mom, she always thought Melo would take part in athletics more than anything, “Melo’s passion and love for netball made me set my doubts aside and support her regardless. She plays both centre and wing attack and represents the U9 Taalfees mini netball girls’ green team,” she said.
Faith emphasised that she tries, by all means, not to miss a game as her daughter needs all her support. Melo has joined a local netball club called Young Talent Netball Club, where she gets to practice Monday to Thursday after school, she also practices from Monday to Thursday at school.
“Given the fact that my mother always supported me in all my games growing up, I am always cheering her on, giving her all the support and guidance. In all the matches that I’ve seen her play, they always win. The girls are talented I must say, and I am proud of the girls,” Faith cheered.
Her role model is Bongiwe Msomi, a former South African netball player.
