Barking good citizens
Witbank and Middelburg K9 Club hosts first event of its kind in Mpumalanga
The Witbank and Middelburg K9 Club got together in the freezing cold to show off their dogs and the amazing skills these pooches have.

On Sunday, July 7, they hosted a dog show at the Bankenveld Golf Club, where their furry friends showcased just what good citizens they are in society. Everyone had a barking good time, and smiles and wagging tails were the order of the day.

It was the first time this event was hosted in Mpumalanga by the Kennel Club of South Africa, and instructor Michelle Meyer had this to say about her students, “I am so incredibly proud of each one of my students. I am in awe of how far they have progressed and what good citizens they are.”
The pooches showcased their skills in ‘being a good citizen’, which for a dog, is sometimes challenging.

These magnificent animals are taught to walk politely on a lead, not pull or jump up on people, not grab food, or be distracted from their tasks by toys or treats, among many other skills they know.
Many of the dogs go on to become loyal, compassionate, and hard-working therapy dogs, and these types of skills serve pet owners who are planning on going overseas with their pets in good stead as these skills are sought after in other parts of the world.
