Emalahaleni municipality warns about scammers promising to reconnect your electricity

Fraudsters are impersonating officials from the municipality’s reconnection and rut-off department, requesting payments of R500 or other amounts into personal bank accounts.

The Emalahleni Local Municipality urges the public to be vigilant as scams are on the rise during the festive season.

Fraudsters are ready to pounce on unsuspecting residents and are impersonating officials from the municipality’s reconnection and cut-off department, requesting payments into personal bank accounts before the ‘re-connect’ services.

Please take note of the following:

All municipal payments must be made directly to the Emalahleni Local Municipality through official channels.
Do not make payments to any personal accounts or individuals claiming to represent the municipality.
Cash payments should never be handed over to anyone, even if they claim to be municipal employees.

If you suspect fraud or encounter suspicious activities, report it immediately to the municipality directly or visit your nearest municipal office.
Stay alert and protect yourself this festive season.
