Murder case of Nelly Voyiya postponed for final ruling

The Middelburg High Court has postponed the murder case of Nelly Voyiya, who was stabbed multiple times on Woltemade Street on April 19, 2022, by her ex-husband, Gilbert Voyiya.

The Middelburg High Court has postponed the murder case of Nelly Voyiya to next year for a final ruling. Gilbert Voyiya, the ex-husband of the late Nelly, is accused of stabbing her multiple times on April 19, 2022, on Woltemade Street.

Nelly’s story is one of courage and resilience in the face of years of abuse.

Her friends had described her as a ‘courageous woman’ who had finally found the strength to leave her abusive marriage in a previous interview with WITBANK NEWS.

Despite being the breadwinner in the household, providing for her ex-husband’s every need, Nelly silently hid the pain and suffering she endured at the hands of her ex-husband.

On the day of the incident, Gilbert allegedly stabbed Nelly multiple times before fleeing the scene. He later handed himself over to the police in Standerton.

In a chilling phone call, Voyiya phoned Nelly’s mother and said, “I am done with your daughter,” before ending the call.

Nelly’s friends and family remembered her as a strong and courageous woman who had inspired them with her resilience.

The Transversal Unit under the Office of the Executive Mayor of Emalahleni Local Municipality had supported the family throughout the trial, and the community had rallied behind Nelly’s family, demanding justice for her senseless murder.

The family and community eagerly await the final ruling, hoping to see justice served on January 23, 2025.
