The City of Coal, eMalahleni, has earned the unfortunate reputation of being a hotspot for hijacking.
The community residents are living in fear as car hijackings and thefts are on the rise.

In this article, WITBANK NEWS reveals the top 10 most stolen cars in eMalahleni, based on the South African Police Services.

Top 10 most stolen cars in eMalahleni:
Toyota Hilux, Volkswagen Polo, Toyota Corolla, Ford Ranger, Nissan NP200, Volkswagen Golf, Hyundai i20, Kia Rio, Renault Clio, and Mazda 3.

Most car thefts occurred in the following areas: Smuts Street at the civic centre, Tasbet Park in Boekenhout Street, Klarinet Extension 8, Old Middelburg Road, and Allenby Street.

The most common time for car theft is between 22:00 and 2:00.

Most stolen cars are sold on the black market or stripped for parts.

What can you do to protect your vehicle?

Captain Eddie Hall, a spokesperson from the Witbank Police Station, gave tips: “Avoid offering rides to strangers, especially those claiming to be workers; verify passengers’ identities before offering rides; keep vehicle doors locked and windows closed; be vigilant, especially at night.”

The Witbank Police are urging residents to be vigilant and take necessary precautions to protect their vehicles.
