Kriel High school athletes are as fast as lightning

Blazing the track: Owethu Motha and Sandile Dladla sprints to National glory.

Two athletes, Owethu Motha and Sandile Dladla were selected for the Mpumalanga Athletics Team.

Sandile qualified for the 200m Boys U17 after he ran his personal best of 22.4s in the 200m relay.

He will represent Mpumalanga at the South African National Secondary School Athletics Championships on April 2 to 5.

Sandile started training with his coach two years ago and saw outstanding results as they focused on speed and technique, “Training was hard, but with hard work, dedication, and faith in God, I was able to push through,” said Sandile faithfully.

Owethu qualified in the 100m and 200m Boys U19 after running his personal best in both relays. He ran a blistering time of 10.02s for the 100m and 21.08s for the 200m dash. These statistics make Owethu the fastest 100m and 200m relay runner in the province.

Owethu will represent Mpumalanga at the South African Championships on March 27-29 in Cape Town. Furthermore, he will represent Mpumalanga at the South African National Secondary School Athletics Championships on April 2-5 in Bloemfontein, “I am ready physically, and mentally. I know that I am going to leave my mark,” said Owethu confidently.

 

“Congratulations to my two boys, through hard work and dedication you achieved amazing results,” said coach Conrad Conradie proudly.
