Residents fear for their lives after mine blast rocks Vosman

Mine blasting wreaked havoc in Vosman Extension 17 earlier today. Houses were destroyed during the mine blast.

A recent mine blasting incident has left Vosman Extension 17 residents reeling in shock and anger.

Homes have been reduced to ruins, while others require urgent repairs.

Steven Thushane, a community liaison officer, acknowledged the incident, stating, “Today’s blasting at 13:00 was heavier than usual, resulting in cracked homes and damaged roofing.”

Residents expressed their outrage and desperation, claiming the blasting has become a recurring nightmare.

Houses were damaged during a mine blasting earlier today, and residents have to make plans to stay dry tonight as more rain is predicted.

“The blasting is taking a heavy toll on our health and livelihoods. We’re experiencing numerous illnesses, and today’s incident affected my disabled daughter, causing her to faint. Our entire house is damaged, and we’re pleading for help,” said one resident.

The resident’s plight is dire, with no clear solution in sight.

“Enough is enough! We can’t continue like this. With the rain approaching, I don’t know where I will be sleeping tonight. My roof was damaged, and even my television was destroyed. It’s disheartening that our cries for help seem to be falling on deaf ears.”

Thushane added, “We are currently busy repairing the damaged roofing, which is our standard procedure when our blasting affects the community.”

Ward 8 Councillor Xolani Nkosi acknowledged the community’s concerns, “As councillors, we have to represent the community and find solutions. We’re currently addressing the damaged roofing and windows.”
