Taking ‘bald’ steps in the fight against cancer

The Cansa Shavathon was a colourful affair.

The Cansa Shavathon once again was a highlight on the calendar.

Stretching over two days, March 28 and 29, the food court at The Ridge Casino was a hive of activity.

Between the vibrant colours sprayed on hair, sad stories of loved ones lost, and brave stories of strength, perseverance, and faith were told.

Andries du Preez, a Cansa volunteer, said the money raised in the project go to research, education, screening initiatives, care, and support services for those affected by cancer.

The Ridge Casino’s Promotions Coordinator, Gcinile Mgwabe, shared that they had loads of fun and laughter, “We had a chance to do something profound for cancer fighters and survivors, and that was the best feeling.”

Lungani Nkonyeni, The Ridge Casino’s Marketing Manager, said the casino is proud to be part of this worthy project.

A cancer patient once said, “Cancer started the fight, but I will finish it” – that quote wraps up the essence of this year’s Shavathon.
