eMalahleni Home Affairs shutdown sparks chaos as community demands service
The Department of Home Affairs office in eMalahleni is closed following ongoing speculations of unsafe working conditions for staff members.
The community of eMalahleni is fed up with the alleged poor service they receive from the Department of Home Affairs in eMalahleni.

This comes after the residents of the City of Coal were met by closed offices this morning as they went for various services. It is alleged that the union behind the shutdown, the National Education, Health and Allied Workers Union (NEHAWU), stopped all operations due to unsafe working conditions for staff members, demanding improved security measures before employees can resume duties.

Unfortunately, the closure of the office which came without any prior public notice, fueled the community’s rage and added to their endless frustrations and issues revolving around poor service they say they have been experiencing for a while now.
Essential services such as ID applications, passport renewals, birth registrations, and collection of all Home Affairs documentation, have been disrupted by the shutdown, leaving many community members stranded as they cannot attend to their urgent commitments that require documentation from the department.
WITBANK NEWS reached out to NEHAWU to get their comment on the matter, but there has been no response yet.
