Sowing seeds of compassion

Where memory fades but love grows – volunteers breathe new life into healing garden

In a beautiful act of compassion and community, New Life Church recently came together to bring new life to a garden that serves as a sanctuary for Immergroen Alzheimer’s patients.

The initiative, driven by the church’s unwavering commitment to serve and uplift, saw volunteers rolling up their sleeves to reconstruct the space, turning it into a place of beauty and healing.

An essential component of the Alzheimer’s care facility, the garden used to be a lively area where individuals could feel relaxed, bond with nature, and experience a feeling of familiarity among the uncertainty that the illness sometimes causes.

Over time, however, it had fallen into disrepair.

Volunteers of all ages from the church congregation gathered with shovels, wheelbarrows, and for five hours, they worked tirelessly, digging, planting, painting, and bringing life back to the garden on March 29.

Beyond the physical labour, the volunteers poured their hearts into every moment, knowing the impact this garden could have.

“This garden is more than just a collection of plants; it’s a place of hope and connection. It’s a reminder that even when memories fade, love endures,” said Peta Anne Schim, a member of New Life Church.
